Women & Fitness Stereotypes
Too many women still hear the same old rules: don’t lift weights, do more cardio, eat less. These ideas hold women back from real results. At OTB Health Club, our women’s-only gym in South Auckland, we coach in a safe, supportive space so you can feel strong, confident, and in control.
Myths to ditch
“Lifting makes you bulky.”
Building large muscle is hard. Smart strength training shapes your body, boosts metabolism, and protects joints.
“Only cardio burns fat.”
Cardio helps your heart, but strength training keeps muscle while you lose body fat. That’s how results last.
“You must be fit before you join.”
The gym is where you build fitness. We start at your level and progress at your pace.
“Women over 40 can’t gain strength.”
You can. With the right plan, strength training supports bone health, hormones, and everyday energy.
“Weights are unsafe for women.”
Poor coaching is unsafe. Good coaching makes lifting one of the safest, most empowering ways to train.
